Grandma Selma
My wife's grandmother from a black and white photo.
The original photo was circa 1940s. It had the usual dull background and was the way things were in those days. I asked my wife and other relatives what she was like, her favorite things, her strengths and weaknesses. I learned that, after her and her husband built their first house, she planted her favorite flowers, lilacs and hydrangea around the property. With that knowledge, I put together a painting with Selma surrounded by her favorite flowers and her new house in the distance.
